Foreign police · temporary and permanent residenceResidence permit in Slovakia: official translation of your documents
The foreign police accept documents in a foreign language only with an official translation into Slovak. A translation made by a Slovak sworn translator is accepted directly, without any confirmation from an embassy.
Documents that often need translation
- birth certificate
- marriage certificate or divorce decree
- criminal record certificate from your country (police clearance)
- diplomas and certificates
- employment or bank documents, if requested
Check two things first: the exact list of documents for your type of residence, and whether your documents need an apostille or superlegalisation. Both must be done in the country that issued the document, before the translation.
Why not translate at home?
A translation made abroad must come with a confirmation from the Slovak embassy that the translator was authorised. A translation made in Slovakia does not need it. Source: Ministry of the Interior (Slovak).
Criminal record certificates are often valid for only a limited time, usually 90 days. Plan the translation so it is ready before your appointment.
How it works
- Send a photo of your document on WhatsApp or by email. I reply with the exact price and the date it will be ready.
- Bring the original or a notarised copy to my office in Trnava, or send it by post.
- Collect your official translation. It is bound to the document with the Slovak tricolour ribbon, signed and sealed.
